I found this tutorial for an adorable bow clutch from Elm Street Life. Of course it went right to the top of my “things I need to sew” list.
I found some black canvas remnant and used that for the body and the lining of the clutch. I used some leftover pink dupioni for the bow. It was super easy – Whitney made a great tutorial with really great step-by-step photo instructions. The whole thing probably took me about an hour.
Here’s the result:
Somehow the strap came out on the wrong side of the bow so it pulls the top edge of the bow down a bit and makes it look uneven. Luckily, I can tuck the strap in under the bow (or I may just remove it completely) and then the bow sits properly. If I were to make it again I’d make the loop that goes around the bow (the “knot”) a little smaller to pull the bow in a little tighter in the middle. I’d also bunch up the edges of it a little so it looks more like Whitney’s original. I don’t like that mine is so smooth and unfolded. On a side note, I’ve realised that I’m a sucker for mustard yellow. Just because I love it in yellow doesn’t mean it will look fantastic in other colours.
All in all, it was a good project. I’d recommend making it.
